Au Ras Au Ras
Tess Brunet is completely self-taught/self-made, whatever you want to call it. She started off playing drums and has been for the last 8 years. During the first year of teaching herself the drums she picked up the autoharp. Since then she's dabbled with keys/synths and guitar, but over the last 2 years she's become much more serious about those particular instruments. On the record Tess sings lead and backing, plays drums, guitar, keys, bass, autoharp, and omnicord. Tess recruited friends Seth Kauffman of Floating Action who plays guitar, drums, bass, and omnichord on the record, and Michael Libramento, also of Floating Action, who plays guitar, drums, bass, and keys. Tess has collaborated on two releases prior to this solo record. 'We Are Night Sky,' deadboy & the Elephantmen and 'Trust' EP, Generationals. 'It is a really really really cool record, she sent it to me the other day and I'm oh so thankful. I wrote her a letter and I said 'Tess, we're going to play you on the radio, on my little show,' and she was very happy about that so we're going to listen to a song from her brand new record, we're going to play a song from it called 'When The Night Arrives,' so right now, Curtis Mayfield and Tess Brunet.' -Henry Rollins on KCRW July 28th, 2011 'In her new band she's a multi-instrumentalist, she plays keyboard and drums and other stuff as well. She is a completely self-taught musician and if you go to my website, or the KCRW website, or the LA Weekly website and look up my radio notes you will see a really cool video that you can watch by going to a little website which I have beneath her name it's something on kickstarter.com and you can see a 4 minute infomercial that she shot and is talking about what she's doing, the recording of her record, it's pretty cool. It's not new, it's a little dated, it's before she recorded the record, but it's worth checking out.' -Henry Rollins on KCRW July 28th, 2011.
