Arev Armenian Folk Ensemble Announces the Release of their Newest Album, The Return July 2010 (Watertown, MA,)-The Arev Armenian Folk Ensemble announces the release of their latest album, The Return. The album revisits music unplugged and uninhibited, filled with raw emotion- a link with the past and a companion to the future. Arev Armenian Folk Ensemble is an Armenian music troupe established in Watertown, Massachusetts in 1989. The ensemble performs traditional Armenian music, presenting Armenia's musical traditions by performing with traditional folk instruments. Band members include John Kozelian, Ud; Vocalist Ani Zargarian; Martin Haroutunian, dap, dhol, duduk, zurna, shvi and pku, Vocalist Tamar Melkonian; and Markos Shahbazyan, dhol. After ten years of musically collaborating together and discovering their true style (Armenian folk), the band devised their mission and the message they want to deliver. "Our music tells the story of our rich ancient history and culture, and the lyrics we sing today are the words of our Armenian ancestors. I am very proud to be a part of something that helps keep our culture alive," explained Vocalist Tamar Melkonian. This album celebrates the origins of Armenian music by returning to the basics of acoustic stylization. The Return is about getting back to the basic elements presented in an intimate natural acoustic unplugged setting. "It is a reflection of our distant and not so distant past as well as a guide to the future," said Musical Director Martin Haroutunian. The group contributes to the community at large by keeping traditional music relevant today. As a preservation of the art form, the group performs these songs for various audiences locally and abroad. 'I'm proud of this album," explains Vocalist Ani Zargarian. "I'm privileged that as diasporan Armenians we are able to perform and produce the music of our past with emotion and foresight, linking our present and future. I am honored to have this responsibility, and I know that The Return will be this link."
