Icelandic jazzguitarist Andres Thor's sophmore release features him in the intimate setting of the trio (guitar, double bass and drums) playing fresh arrangements of jazzstandards as well as two of his own songs. The standards are handpicked from the American songbook and are gems you are not likely to hear in you local jamsession but some of the most beautiful melodies from the pens of composers like Cole Porter, Fats Waller and Hoagy Charmichael to name a few. Andres and his trio mates, bassplayer Valdimar K. Sigurjónsson and drummer Einar Scheving explore the standards with respect for tradition but also with the adventureous mind of contemporary jazz. The originals rhyme well with the standards and Eyjavals (Island Waltz) is a heartfelt waltz with a latin touch dedicated to the island Vestmanneyjar wich is south of Iceland. The title track, Blik closes the album with it's kicks and standard like harmonic form.
