Island Am I : Sleep Tonight Tomorrow the World
An Island Am I, is the solo project of singer/songwriter Eddie Anthony. Eddie was born in Florida, but spent most of his life growing up in Texas. He has been involved in some sort of music entity for over a decade. His earlier band, Thanxbutnothanx, gained a loyal following in and around Houston, Tx. Through this band Eddie has had the opportunity to share the stage with national acts such as The Ataris, Fenix TX, The Toadies, the Violent Femmes, Flickerstick, Reverend Horton Heat, Riddlin' Kids, and Blue October, to name a few. Thanxbutnothanx received interest from both indie and major labels, but not everyone in the band had the same aspirations. Eddie found out that some musicians are content with playing the same local clubs every Friday and Saturday night and are unwilling to risk the security of 'home' for a chance at something bigger. Eddie felt the Texas music scene was suffocating in both a literal and metaphoric sense. So in the summer of 2002 he decided to venture out west in search of that something bigger. He felt California was the place he needed to be so he loaded up his truck and he moved to...uh...San Diego. He has lived in several different places through out California and even lives out of his tour van when necessary. (the mark of a true musician) At one point his goal was to create the 'perfect' band, but from one lineup change after another trying to start a band, Eddie decided to try his hand at a solo project. An Island Am I is the result, named as a reply to the age old saying 'no man is an island' Eddie is out to prove that it doesn't take a band to create good music. In the year that An Island Am I has been around, Eddie has been consistently playing anywhere and everywhere he can, whether it be a booked show, a friends birthday party, or even an open mic night, you will find Eddie performing a tune or two nearly every night. Every performance is well received, to say the least, while playing shows up and down, and in and around the state of California, Eddie plans on winning over his audiences' one listener at a time. With influences that range from punk rock to R&B, Eddie writes songs with contagious melodies and heart felt lyrics. His performances are a display in pure emotion and moving messages that everyone can enjoy.
