Here & There
Akousma's original members are Stavros Kartakis (Greece) and George Lernis (Cyprus). During studies at Berklee College of Music, they decided to start jamming on a regular basis. At first, the repertoire consisted of standards, but soon original compositions were added. The following year, auditions for a bassist took place. Hiro Sakaba (Japan) was the perfect match: His playing was original, contemporary and from the very beginning he enriched the tunes with his unique ideas. In 2007 it was time to get ready for the first album. While rehearsing, the trio decided to find a clarinet player for a handful of tunes. Due to great technical abilities as well as his creative playing, Linus Wyrsch (Switzerland), a friend of Stavros, was chosen for the job. First rehearsals showed that he would fit perfectly with the rest of the band which was now ready to roll. After recording their Debut CD 'Here and There', Akousma added it's most recent member, pianist Petros Sakelliou (Greece). Although starting as a substitute for Stavros, his skills blended so nicely that it was not long before he became a regular. Akousma is primarily a Jazz Band, but it is not a rarity to hear them play Latin, Funk and other styles. What makes Akousma contemporary and unique, is an unusual instrumentation as well as a distinctive sound. Their first album called 'Here and There' was recorded and mixed by Andreas Trachonitis at Mix One studios in Boston and released on January 15th 2008. It contains six original compositions by George Lernis and Stavros Kartakis.
