In the winter of 2009, a smoky voice over dry acoustic guitar came from a cell phone commercial. It was Kiyoshi Ryujin, a 19-year-old boy at the time, who created the song, which could be mistaken for one from a hidden masterpiece of Western music, and sang it in English verse. His unparalleled songwriting sense, his voice that radiates an overwhelming presence, and his musicality that transforms itself with each album, all of which are unique in the 21st century J-pop scene, made him a young and isolated artist.
