With the Crowd
Accidental Charm merges vocal harmony-based pop with a heady, driving rock backbone. Rob Isele and Tom Godsman--best known in the Washington area from their work in the late 1990s and early 21st Century with the Beatles tribute band The Invasion--bring British rock influences into the mix with Jack Albert and Brad Davis to create thought-provoking lyrics and memorable melodies. As the title of their first CD All Over the Map implies, their musical influences are far too diverse to pigeon hole into one predictable genre. Their second release Behind the Glass--their first effort with Davis joining the band on drums--took listeners even deeper into more interesting and complex musical territory that often harkened back to the progressive art-rock of the 1970s. Whereas the first two CDs offered lead vocals by Godsman, Isele, and Albert, their third CD, Dream at Your Own Risk, was the first Accidental Charm CD to feature lead vocals by all four members. This ambitious work by the band contains musical stories that describe the good and the bad of love, faith, and other convictions. With the Crowd continues the tradition of the group's first three albums. Principal songwriter Tom Godsman writes deeply personal songs that also will resonate with anyone who has loved and pined for love, wondered about his place in this world, and other universal emotions. Jack Albert's 'Islands of Yes' offers a slightly sardonic take on our wish for a little relief from all the frustrations in life. The title track, with lyrics by Tom and music by Rob, is, of course, about the ways many of us are anything but 'With the Crowd.' Meet the Band Tom Godsman (vocals, guitar) - Besides being the lead guitarist, Tom is our resident musical arranger in the group. He is also a creative and prolific songwriter. Beatle fans might be interested in knowing that Tom moonlights as George Harrison in professional touring Beatle tribute bands. Rob Isele (vocals, bass, keyboards, guitar, trumpet) - Rob's philosophy is this - music is a great big stew, and most of the meat and potatoes come from the 60's and 70's. As you move on in time, you want to apply newer sounds as you would a strong, possibly pungent spice. Rob is also the screamer of the group - a non-tenor bravely going down that road they call 'Tenor'. Jack Albert (vocals, bass, guitar)- When you see us play, Jack, besides playing the bass and a mean rhythm guitar, will be the one announcing the songs, the band, etc. He definitely likes to rock out. He is also the recording engineer of the group. All four of Accidental Charm's albums were recorded in his studio. Brad Davis (drums, vocals) - Brad can really pound the skins and sings like a bird. Outside of the band Brad teaches drums.
