I started playing guitar when I was seven years old. What really turned me on to wanting to learn was when I first saw a man named Ken Platt, who is now my amazing guitar and vocal teacher, play in church one Sunday morning. I was fascinated with the way his fingers danced confidently around the fretboard, with every move there was a different yet beautiful sound. So I asked him if he would teach me, and I'm pretty sure that began him not only instructing me, but other kids as well. Singing, on the other hand, was something that no one had to teach me how to do. I started singing the same time I could talk, and one thing I can remember is constantly running around my house making up my own lyrics and melodies, setting up a 'stage' made of a blanket, a stool, a rake for my 'guitar,' and stuffed animals for my audience, and performing for them. Ever since then it's been my passion. Music for me isn't just a hobby, it's my way of life. It's what I look forward to and what's within my dreams, my goals for the future and what I see myself doing from here on out. What motivates me to write is everything around me- boys, girls, memories, heartbreaks, good times, bad times, loss to love, really anything that has a story to it, I'll write about. What I want is to inspire those who have inspired me, and so on. My biggest role models such as Taylor Swift, Adele, Nicki Minaj, & Lady Gaga are all strong, beautiful women who, through their music, have reached millions of people with relatable story lines and words that sit a different way with each of us, bringing us back to different points in our lives and even getting us through difficult times we may be having now, which is what my I want my music to do as well. My journey has just begun, and I'm ready to enjoy every little part of it, but never forget where I started- on my bedroom floor with a miniature guitar trying to get my small, seven year old fingers to switch from a G chord to a D, while humming a song for my mom I had just written. Wherever this path takes me, the experience of writing those first few songs is something I'll always keep in the back of my mind.
